sauer 155 2.0 TS 16v Cutting out when hot

Evening All,

I've just paid through the nose for my 132,000 mile service, including all belts and tensioners and a bit of other work besides.

The one thing my local garage (Alfa Specialists) cannot deduce, is why my 155 keeps cutting out when hot. These are the symptoms:

1. Only happens when engine is hot, or if it has been run up to temperature, left for five minutes then run again.

2. Idle is perfect, not a dip in RPM.

3. Very gentle acceleration is OK too.

4. As soon as I put my foot down (as I have been known to do on special occasions The thing accelerates reasonably well, but "cuts out" for quarter to half a second at a time. Keeps doing so right the way through the rev range.

It's not like a misfire though, the deceleration is quite vicious when it happens and I don't think any of the cylinders are firing.

All the plugs and filters are brand new (but it was like that before the service). Garage have carried out compression test which is good and equal on all 4 cylinders. They have also checked all leads and connections (including air-flow meter, which did once cause a similar problem in past).

I / we are completely baffled, so if anyone has had a similar experience I'd be very grateful for any information. I've just spent around twice the current value of the car on servicing and am reluctant to call her a write-off!

Thanks for your help ladies and gents.

heul

OMG,

Thanks Blitz. But I really hope that's not the answer. I'm assuming ECU doesn't stand for "economical control unit".

I can' t afford much more of this . . .
