Pre-ignition on 145 2.0 TS

Can anyone please tell me what could cause my car to ping (Pre-ignite) in warm weather. What things should i look at? Eg. Lambda sensor, airflow meter or what? What of the engine management system components would look after the ignition timing? And how would i be able to diagnose the system myself without sending into a dealer?

Any suggestions please would be greatly appreciated.

PS. Its a 1996 145 Quadrifoglio 2.0 Twinspark

You better drive to your dealer...
check out your spark plugs before, the platinum plugs have a lifetime of ~100K km
