Engine Swaps?

I just bought a 1985 Spider, and I was wondering if anyone has ever done any engine swaps?? I have an LS-1 sitting in my garage. I think I could shoehorn it in.

Hi SScott, what´s a LS-1, Lotus Seven Series 1? I Think nobody in Germany konws whata LS1 is, please explain it

Oh oops sorry, an LS-1 is the all aluminum V-8 engine that is in the 1997+ Corvettes. The engine is rated at 350 Horse Power. People are putting them in all kinds of cars. Jaguars, Mazda RX-7's, ect...So if no one there has even herd of it probably not huh. I am one of those guys who always wants more. What I want more of in this case is HP/TQ. Whats is the best way to get that out of an 85 spider Veloce

Very ambitious...and most likely not possible. People have enough trouble getting the four cylinder 8valve 2 litre Alfa TS engine into Spiders..never mind a V8. (Its taller than the standard Alfa Engine)

The concensus on the Alfa Digest www.digest.net is that turbo charging is the best way of getting max power out of a Spider, but only if you know what you are doing. However, most people are content to enjoy the car as she as designed to be enjoyed, and in some cases..less is more.

Hi Guys,

believe it or not - several years ago a german company called "Neuser" mounted a V8-engine into a Fastback. It was the engine which was the same as in the Montreal or Tipo 33.
I have some pics, but give me some hours. I will scan them and put them into the forum.

Don't say a V8-engine won't fit, but the american big blocks will be a little bit too big for the spider.

I have seen a 3 Litre V6 engine in an Alfa 145 at Spring Alfa day at Duxford in 2001, and it was very neatly done too. Not sure who did it and I wouldn't have believed it until I saw it.
