Well - first of all nobody outside Germany as any idea why you germans keep using the term "Oldtimer" for classic and vintage cars. Oldtimer in english is comparable to your expression "Alte Hase" - someone who has been around for a long time and has extensive experience his field; a veteran.

The term "Newcomer" does not even exist in the English language. This German misuse of English and English-like word is for a foreigner living in Germany is quite weird (English not being my mother tongue either). As the linguistic level of the English forum is on the limit of comprehensibility, I doubt that it will see much use in the competition against other English forums.

Nichts Böses gemeint, aber ich denke dass das Englische Forum kein Überlebenschance hat. Die Deutsche Foren sind aber hervorragend!

Beste Grüße,
Frode

It is a bit quite here. & Shelby you are so right.

I spent 6months living in Germany & came across this type of misuse of English and English-like word!

mind you my German is terrible, so I will say no more on that front.

I suppose "Old Timer Alfa owners" is known to us "Classic Alfa owner", or "Rusty Alfa Owner" which I think is more accurate !!!

I've got a Classic shape Alfa. although not particularly old, a 1990 Series 4 Spider. this is kept in good company in the garage by a very poorly Alfa 75 3.0 V6 Veloce & an Alfa 164 TS.

Hi people,

why not take advantage of your "minority"- status and let the users from D, A, CH & L etc. know how Alfa is considered in the UK and the USA. How is it to drive one in your country? Does it survive scottish roads? Does one get spare parts in Minnesota?
Are you laughed at driving through Detroit?
I remember very well Joachim's report on owning an Alfa 156 in Hong-Kong (thanks by the way, I enjoyed every word of it!)!

The german forum is very good, indeed, but why not "broaden our mind"? Put some perspective in our views on driving a diesel, top-speed, reliability, running costs, public opinion (media coverage! Mr. Clarckson!!) and, and...

What do you think?

Ciao,

Sebastiaan.
