Dear Alfisti, how can you tell a 2.5 V6 from its bigger brother 3.0 V6 on a 166 model?? They seem to look absolutely similar from the outside (please don't mention about the badge on the rear of the car - I can put one with 6.0 inscription ;D ).
Thank you!

Hi,

some early 2.5 V6 (until 2000 and the introduction of the Progession und Distincitve lines ) have no "ASR off" switch between the "lock doors" and the "STR on" switch, because ASR was only optional for the 2.5 V6. Despite of that no visual differences, I think.

The only difference that i can think of is the Diameter of the Intakerunners.
Intakerunners are those Chrom-plated pipes, 6 of them ofcourse ;-)
For the 2.5 it should be 42mm and for the 3.0 they should be 45mm.
Well you would have to measure or train your eyes :) .

when you open the hood...
the heads have 2.5 or 3.0 sign in the alloy (rear side > direction windscreen)

The block also have same 2.5 or 3.0 marks...above the oilpan (front side > direction cooler). Maybe herefor you have to lift the car.

I am not sure, but the last time i saw a 166 3.0 with an open hood,
i thought "hey! they are thicker than the ones i have on my 156 2.5"

different part-no > different diameter
