he guys,

i want to buy a used alfa 156 1.9jtd with 77kw but i am not sure what i will get for my money! at the moment i am driving a 318is e30 with 100kw and my mother is driving a vw golf(edition III) with 66kw(tdi). i wanted to ask what kind of engine this will be and how powerful it is? is it better than the tdi or less? what weaknesses does the engine/car have? the used car i could get would have 98000 km what about chip tuning, competence tuning offers a chip changing the power to 103 kw!? is it worth to use the chip or will it destroy the engine?

I hope this answer is soon enough, so that we have a new alfisti. ;)

My mum drives a golf TDI IV cabrio 66kw(quite heavy car) and my dad an 156 SW 1.9 jtd 85 kw.
Both engines are totally different. The TDI is not underpowered but it doesn't give you a fast impression neither.
The JTD gives you more a speedy impression because the accelerator responds sooner and the engine loves much more higher rpm's than the TDI.Also the sound is much nicer.
I've never driven the 77kw version but I think the difference isn't that big. The difference in max.torque is only 20Nm.
The JTD's are quite reliable and haven't a lot of problems. A possible problem can be a broken MAF what is a quite expansive cost.
