Has anyone any experience of the Autodelta chip on 8 valve TS engines. It claims 10 BHP at a reasonable price. Does it achieve this, and how easy is it to fit, is it a soldering job or a push fit in a housing? Lots of questions, but I have never met anyone with a car with one fitted...

Tim Hancock!hello!

To be honest ,Tim I wouldn't advise you to make use of any of those chips. In fact,(professional) chip-tuning makes much more/only sense with turbo-machines !

Hi
The only way to do chip-tuning is to make a molded program while the car is on a dyno. All "ready" chips are some kind of a compromise of the right adjustments. The chip doesn't know in what condition your cylinder head is, what exhaust pipe you have and what kind of an airfilter you have.

There are a couple of guys that have the equipment to do this and they have made an excelent job with most of the engines, especially with turbo engines. You won't even have to change the TS Motronic CPU when installing a turbo. It can be programmed to understand the pressure, if you want.

I wouldn't recomend any regular chips for any engine, because the price for a molded program here in Finland is only 400 Euro and there is a "more horsepower or your money back guarantee".

Furthermore, if you want to spend some money on the engine, I'd recomend to tune the cylinder head, put a free-flow air filter, a better exhaust pipe and raise the fuel pressure from 3 bar to 3.4. It does wonders even without the chip. My 250 tkm driven 164 TS has 152 hp with this recipe, while my 100 tkm driven Giulietta TS has 140 hp. The 148 hp are a memory (if they ever existed) after 50 tkm mostly because of lousy valve guiders and seats.
