Hi, i am the owner of a 99 156 2.5. On start up there is a very short slipping/screech. This has gotten worse over the past number of weeks. I am thinking that it is the tension of the pully belt ( poly V etc ). Am i right, could it be the pully wheel bearings??
On looking at the belt it does appaer to have a little bit too much movement ( when pushed with fingers it moves abour 1/2 inch + ).

Can anyone offer advice on the procedure for increasing the tension.

A commomn question seems to be people looking for service manulas/cd's......do any exist or where can one get information for DIY work..

Thanking you in advance......Tony c Ireland....

Hi Tony,

lots of questions, I try to be succinct:
1. it's possible that the tensioner pulley is worn, it could be also
that the bearing of the pulley is at the end of its lifespan.
Depends a little on the mileage.
2. I can't give you an idea how to increase the tension, sorry.
3. There are workshop CD in the market. While I don't know if
the Fanshop/Tuningshop/Mercato here in 'alfisti.net' is selling
them, but you can of course post a Search in the mercato.
(see buttons on the top)

Ciao

Hi there Tony, sounds like the tensioner has given up the ghost lad! It would be better to buy a new tensioner and belt. If the bearings were shot then you should be able to "wobble" the pulley around. If you have any doubt then the only course is the Alfa dealer, let them have a look, can't do no harm.
