Hi folks,

This is my first time on the forum.
Can anyone please advise me on whether or not it is a good idea to chip up my JTS. It is 6 months old, with 2 yr warranty. i don't feel that it is producing the type of power that Alfa says it should be ( 165BHP)

Any help would be apprceaited. Also if there is a good place to go near heathrow to get this type of work done?

many thnaks

Cheers!!

@ksuri,

You can have a look in this thread:
Alfa Romeo Forum - powered by www.alfisti.net > Deutsche Technik-Foren > Aktuelle Modelle > Wie schnell sind eure JTS???

You will find that there are many JTS engines that apperently don't achieve their 165 HP. My car is one of them.

There are some rumours of solutions like other camshafts or computer. The situation is not clear yet. It may have to do with the Euro4 emission limits. Anyhow, I have not yet come across a case that has been solved. Apart from a few cars where the variable air intake got stuck.

Hi peter,

thanks for your response. I have heard the same thing as you. I might consider chipping it up from Autodelta.

Have you had any other problems?

Hello Ksuri,

Apart from not reaching the top speed, my car 2 times gave a motor management failure indication.

It is not really serious, as you don't notice any change when driving the car. It is related to the lambda sondes. Several other drivers had this problem. Apperently also this has to do with the emission levels.

Probably when the Vmax is solved, also the MM failure indication is solved (so I hope).

Compared to the previous 2.0TS engine there have been some mechanical improvements to the JTS, like a higher oil pressure. So one would expect a higher mechanical reliability. As this engine is just a little over one year on the market, it may still be a little early to draw any conclusions yet.

Hi peter,

i have had the same motor managemnt problem twice. But I found my car to be driving less efficiently during this time, it drove in a safe mode.

I ask my dealer about the Lambde sensor issue, do you know if Alfa are doing anything about this?

Currently my trip computer is not working!!

Do you think that chippiing the car will efect this problem?

Hi Ksuri,

I don't think there is a real solution for the lambda problem yet. My dealer had received a technical bulletin proposing to remove the connectors from the lambdasond and make a straight connection. Apperently somtimes there is a problem with the connectors. However my mechanic checked the connectors and found no failure. He thinks it is a bad idea to remove connectors on a car just a few months old. I agree with him.

If chipping would effect the above mentioned problem can't be answered, unless the cause of the problem is known.

I'm wondering if you have found a company that can chip the JTS engine? If it really achieves 165 HP, as it should, that's quite a lot for a 2 liter engine.
By chipping it may just be impossible to keep withing the Euro4 exhaust limits. Could cause problems with MOT? You live in the UK?

Hi peter,

I am from the UK. Actually i am putting my car on rolling road this Friday to find out what the true power and torque is.
I don't think that it is a full 165BHP. I will let you know what the results are later in the week.

A compnay that does the chipping is Autodelta, based in london. they do lots of work in Europe as well. You sould visit www.autodelta.co.uk

talk to you later.

cheers.....k
