fuel??
I own a '95 alfa romeo 145 1.4ie. Has run about 98.000 km. Now I was wondering which fuel would be best to drive with?
I can chooce between EURO95 Unleaded and SUPER98 Unleaded.
Is there anyone out there who would know the answer

Your car will run just fine with Eurosuper 95.
There are a lot of people who will recommend you the pricier
stuff, but in reality '98' will not give you a better performance
over the '95', because the engine is tweaked and tuned for
'95' .
I recall that on a dynamometer test a car using '98' i/o '95' delivered about 3% less power, not more.

Alfa 33
I was wondering what the prefered fuel for an 1991 Alfa 33 1.3L.
Am I correct in assuming that that engine (code 907A3) is
tweaked for .98 RON essence ?
I saved this car from the scrapper, a collegue of mine gave it
to me for free after he had a crash with it ....
We are about 9 months later now and ...
Its almost done .... can't hardly wait to take it to the technical
Inspection and get it registed again :-)
Sincerely,
Jurgen

98 octane is better, but you can get better results with 98 RON only if your chip is tuned to recognize the different fuel and get advantage of the small (3% or 4% ??) power achievement.
I think this is in the case of the latest 156 JTS and maybe the 147,
but normally with all the other engines there is no way to make the engine recognize the different fuel. You can try to tune the engine yourself and this is very easy with a carburetor engine (I did it on my FIAT 127 and I noticed the benefit of using Shell V powere that is a 98 RON fuel), but with an injection engine it's normally something difficult to do yourself sice you have to tune the chips. Anyway if you tune your car for 98 RON fuel then your car will not be optimized for 95 RON anymore and basically you could even damage your engine if you tune it for 98 and then you use 95 expecially if you push your feeet down at low rpm rates,
you will notice a "strange" noise-sound... that is no good.
If you need I will tell you exactly wich Alfas model supports both 95 and 98 RON and recognize the different fuel.

Hi there!
As Joachim wrote, the difference is not that big. I recommend SUPER98 Unleaded.
cheers,

I don't see much difference with standard 95 .... or the shell V-Power 99+ or BP Ultimate 100....
I think the only difference will be less pinking... but you should get that either because there is pinking sensor....

Hi,
I asked my dealer the same question. He told me to use Euro95, is good enough for the engine.
Cheers Rolf

Hi, super leadfree or the equivilent is perfect, don't waste your money on those sorts with 100 octane, it's just not worth it. Dave
