??? Questions about visiting Italy

Hello All,

I'm a new member and I have a few questions about upcoming visit to Italy from the US. I have a '74 GTV, what is it like as far as finding parts stores, or salvage yards in Italy? I'm looking for bumpers, and a weber coversion kit. Is it worth my time to have a look around or should I just stick with mail order. I would really like to see the "weber plant" if it is around, and maybe pick up a set of 40's. What are the chances of renting a Alfa while I'm there, all the rental places that I have contacted can not guarentee a Alfa? I'll be in Rome and plan on going up to the Alfa Museum, any other places or events that are a must see?

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Hello Jeff,
you've already chosen a fine/the finest (Alfa Romeo) place to visit in Italy: the fantastic museo in Arese. Please make sure it is opened the day you'll arrive there ! May be you want to see the rests of the old factory in Milan-Portello (Via Gattamelata 45), it's worth to go there although it's a little bit sad. What about the Bertone & Pininfarina studios ? Indeed it's difficult to rent an Alfa in Italy, mostly Fiats are offered by the agencies. In case you're looking for parts dealers or (old) Alfa specialists, there is a good chance to meet them, but you have to ask around a bit (or take the adresses already known). I wish you much fun and a good time in Italy !

Ciao

Peter

Hi Jeff,

I'm also going to Italy in September (3 - 10th). Flying in to Milano and staying at Lake Como. Maybe I'll see you at the Alfa Romeo museum - I've never been before and really want to visit.

Hi Jeff,

You might be able to find some bumpers in scrap yards, but it might be hard to find usable bumpers to match the almost new state of the car now that you finished your restoration.

I would try ebay, if hard to find in the US of A try the German ebay, sometimes they are offered there (search words: Stosstange Bertone or somethig like that).

As for the weber conversion kit, I assume you're talking about converting from the SPICA pump, it think it will be unlikely to find a conversion kit over here in Europe since the Spica was standard in the US only. I'm not familiar with the Spica, but do you need a conversion kit or can you get away with buying the individual components of the Euro spec cars i.e. webers, inlet manifold?

Have fun in Italy!
