my gtv wont fire

hi all,
i m new and hopeless with mechanics.. so help me please!
i have a hobby car, a 1975 alfa gtv2000. its not in bad condition, but last month it stopped firing when i tired to start it. i was thinking that the battery must be dead.. but i ve tried to boost start it without luck. the engine simply doesnt fire and all i hear is this 'clicking' noise.. i am assuming that i have a problem with the distributor.
if anyone has any advice on what i need to look at, it ll be very appreciated.

Hi,

I can only think of two possibilities:

1.) The ignition spool is dead or disconnected. Unscrew one of
the spark plugs and have someone turn the key. You'll need to
put the spark against a metal (- pole) surface. If you can see
the spark plug fire, then it's not the ignition. If it does not fire,
then

first check the wires leading from the centre of the distributor to the spool and check those wires connecting it to power.
if that's okay,

second, open the distributor cap and see what the contact looks like or if that's becom disconnected. If you know how to look it should be quite clear.

Third. have a look at the fuel supply a clogged fuel filter may also be the source of your woes

Fourth. I can also think of the fuel pump, which may not pump enough or even none of the juice whatsoever.
That can be checked by unplugging one of the fuel lines leading into the carbs if any fuel comes out when the ignition key is turned.

Ciao,
Joachim

Hi There!
Your description was short but the clicking sound may be the
starter trying to turn but not enough power from battery. I would check the cable from the battery to the starter and the terminal on the starter. Good luck!

my gtv won't fire

Hi! well I've read your question and the following answers, it seems to be either that the starter has given up the ghost or your battery is knackered. To find out which of the 2 is at fault it would be better to try a new battery, if it still don't start and the clicking noise is still there then check the starter cables, if these are intact then the starter has a defect. Try your luck. Dave
