tyres for 156

I want new tires 205-55-16 for my 156 sportkit. I was very happy with my old michelins MXV3A HX because they were user friendly with good overall and predictable performance. Michelin replaced MXV with PRIMACY. BUT a "tyre guru" told me that new primacy has now very soft sidewalls so it is good for a BMW or a sedan from Japan but is unacceptable for sedans with large camber angle, like 156 sportkit. He told me that PIRELLI P7 was the best tyre for me, as it was disigned for fast front wheel drive sedans with such camber.I asked him about P ZERO ROSSO and he told me that it is best for faster front wheel drive sedans (GTA) or 4WD ( SUBARU ). Any opinion or experience ??

Hi dimitris,

I have good experience with Conti Sport Contact 205/55 16 at my 156 SW.

You can find a similar thread in the german section. Click here.

Rubbish

Hi,

The info about the new Michelin having soft sidewalls and hence being unsuitable for the Alfa 156 is not true.

The tyres are all made to the same spec and an overly flexible sidewall would be dangerous as it would run a higher risk of unseating the bead and sheading the tyre at high speed. The sidewall is rigid and as generally not changed as the sidewall is not designed to be a contact point or part of the tyre which will have any wear on it.

I have Michelins on my 156 2.5 V6 (I get them free) and my father works for Michelin and has done for 35 years so I get to find out all the info and technical data on the tyres and I can tell you that the Michelin tyres are and always have been the best on the market. You may find a little more grip with the pirelli tyres but they wear an lot faster and are not as good in the wet.

Regards
