selespeed

help........

My 156 selespeed has a slow 2nd to 3rd gearchange and occasionally jumps from 2nd gear to 4th...... does anyone else have this problem or know what may be causing it.... the car is a 51 plate uk spec car with 10,000 miles on the clock..

Also....

I have been given conflicting advice on gearchange..... do i keep the pedal pressed when changing gear or ease off.?

many thanks
ben

Hello Ben,

I had exactly the same problem as you describe. Occasionally I had troubles shifting from 4th into 5th gear. The problem was in the hydraulic actuator. I was actually in the UK at the time the problem occured. My car had just 5000 km's then.
The actuator was replaced (guarantee) no problems since.

You still have guarantee on the car? I assume it is less than 2 years old with just 10000 miles.

About the gear shifting. You have the JTS or TS engine? On the JTS, the gear shift is improved considerably, much smoother.
With my JTS, ease off the paddle is not necessary. With the '99 TS I drove once, it was however necessary lifting the paddle to have a smooth gear change. In the JTS you just hold constant speed/throttle when changing gear.

Changing during acceleration gives less smooth result, unless accelarating fast above 5000 rpm --> very fast gear changes!

The car is a TS version.... its really pissing me off.....no third gear!!!

Yes its still under garantee, but its taking forever to sort the problem out ...... the Garage now thinks it may be a problem with the Syncro on 3rd gear!!!!

Oh well.....

Q. Why is selespeed gear change slow below 5000rpm and fast above.....is it possible to bring the fast change down to 4000rpm??

cheers

My guess is they don't use the fast gear change under 5000 rpm because that would become uncomfortable.
Or it may reduce the life time of the mechanical components when using all the time.

Technically it should be possible to have fast gear change at 4000 rpm. It would however require reprogramming the control unit.
